I just built a new PC with a 9800X3D and I have a 5080 on the way, but I'm currently using an old 1660 Super. My brother wants my old PC when I upgrade, so I was wondering if I should try running both GPUs together when I get the 5080? I also have an 850W power supply but I'm not sure if that's enough.

Running both GPUs probably won't help you much. In fact, it might cause some issues. Currently, the only real use cases for dual GPU setups are niche options like lossless scaling or frame generation, but those need newer GPUs. So, for practical gaming, it’s probably not worth it.
Yeah, I was thinking about lossless scaling too, but with my 2k 165fps monitor and focus on FPS games, I'm realizing I won't need it. Thanks for clarifying!
I’d say no. Dual GPUs aren't commonly used anymore because they’ve become less practical, and you really need game support for SLI, which most modern titles don't have. It might complicate things for you.
Honestly, keep your old PC for a different purpose. You could use it as a home server or a media center instead of trying to run both GPUs. It's probably a better way to utilize the resources.
That's exactly what I'm doing! Turning my old one into a server using the integrated GPU.
There’s really no point. The 5080 will easily outperform the 1660 Super by a huge margin. Running both might just create more heat and consume unnecessary power.
What’s the use case here? With a RTX 5080 being so much stronger than the 1660S, there just isn’t a need for a second GPU in a gaming setup like yours.
Just wanted to know if I was missing out on something cool, but it seems like I’m better off without the old GPU.

I also think dual GPUs are a thing of the past. Your 5080 should be plenty powerful on its own!
