I recently bought a Ryzen 9 7900x for about $338 with tax at Micro Center. However, I just noticed that they have the 7800x3d priced at $279.99 right now. I'm wondering if I should return the 7900x and grab the 7800x3d instead. I don't do any intensive work on my PC, mostly running iCue in the background and recording gameplay with OBS. Would making the switch be beneficial?

Absolutely, switching to the 7800x3d makes sense. I'd pick 8 cores with 3D cache over a 12-core processor without it any day. You really need to push your PC hard to benefit from more cores while sacrificing that cache, especially for gaming.
It really depends on your usage! If you primarily game, the 7800x3d is a solid upgrade because it's optimized for that. On the other hand, if you engage more with tasks that benefit from extra cores or single-core performance, the 7900x might be a better choice.

Thanks for clarifying! I’m not very technical, so this really helps!
