Is it Worth Taking a Pay Cut for a Job to Gain Kubernetes Experience?

Hey everyone! I've got a question about whether I should take a pay cut for a new job that seems more interesting. I've been working as a DevOps engineer for several years, but I haven't had the chance to work with Kubernetes. Right now, I'm in a big company using Cloudfoundry, and honestly, it doesn't look like we'll be moving to Kubernetes anytime soon. There might be teams that are using Kubernetes internally, but there's no guarantee I could get a spot there.

I've received an offer from a smaller company that uses Kubernetes, but it comes with a 10% pay cut and fewer social benefits. Do you think I should accept this new position to gain that experience, or should I stay where I am and keep looking for better opportunities while preparing for the CKA certification? Thanks for your thoughts!

From my perspective, having production Kubernetes experience is super valuable for your resume. If the 10% pay cut is manageable for you, I’d say go for it! Especially if you're early in your career and have room to grow, that experience can open up a lot of doors for you later on. After gaining some Kubernetes skills, you can always look for higher-paying positions down the line.

I have 8+ years of experience, but I've just never worked with Kubernetes. I'm worried that if I stay where I am, it'll be harder to find a job elsewhere if I get raises and lack that vital Kubernetes experience.
