I'm currently using a 14700K processor and I'm thinking about trading it in for a 9800X3D. Do you think the upgrade is worth the trouble and expense? My main focus is on gaming performance, so I'd love to hear your opinions on whether this switch would be beneficial.

Also consider the hassle of upgrading. You’ll need a new motherboard for the 9800X3D, and might need different RAM too. So think about how much more you'll really have to invest when trading in your current setup!
I switched from a 13900K to a 9800X3D and loved the upgrade, but I had to for a specific reason—my old CPU was toast. If you're considering it just to see a slight performance boost, I think you might want to hold onto your 14700K, especially for high resolutions like QHD and 4K.
I jumped from a 13700K to the 9800X3D because my old CPU was heating the room up like a sauna, even with undervolting. The 9800X3D runs much cooler and uses less power, which is a major plus for me. But if heat isn't an issue for you, reconsider upgrading.
Honestly, don't do it! When I built my rig around the 9800X3D, moving from an i7-9700K to it was a massive improvement. However, upgrading from a 14700K? Not really worth it. You'll mainly see better performance at lower resolutions, otherwise the Intel chip holds its own.
Upgrading might not be the smartest move if you're mostly gaming. The 14700K is still a solid performer. Unless you're gaming at really low resolutions like 720p or 1080p, the difference in performance between the two CPUs isn't huge in most games. You might end up losing money on the trade too!
True, the better CPU really shines in 1% lows instead of average frame rates.
Fortunately, I think I only need to change the motherboard.
