Is it worth upgrading from a 1080 Ti to a 5050?

With the 1080 Ti losing driver support and not being able to utilize DLSS, I'm wondering if switching to a 5050 is a smart move. The power consumption of the 5050 is notably lower as well. I'm considering selling my 1080 Ti for around $175, so the overall cost wouldn't be too high. What do you all think?

I would hesitate to call it an upgrade. In non-DLSS scenarios, the performance will be similar, if not lower. If your existing setup is struggling, consider saving for a card like the RX 6700 XT instead. That way, you’ll have more VRAM and better overall performance.

Honestly, I'd suggest you spend a little extra—around $50 more—for the RTX 5060 8GB. It will significantly enhance your gaming experience for the next couple of years. If the extra cash isn't a huge burden, this would be a better investment overall.

Agreed! The 5060 really gives you a solid upgrade, especially in modern gaming.

Totally! A few extra bucks for a way better performance is totally worth it.

Switching to a 5050 would largely be a sidegrade. Sure, you'll get DLSS benefits in some games, but for standard 1080p gaming, it might not be a significant step up. You'd be better off looking at a 9060 XT or a 5070 to really feel an upgrade without compromising too much on performance.

Right? I agree, especially with some games demanding more than 8GB VRAM now.

Exactly! And if you're trying to future-proof yourself, going for something with more memory is crucial.

If you're set on a 5050, just be aware that its VRAM is going to be a limiting factor. For heavy AAA games, 8GB just isn't cutting it anymore. Honestly, I'd recommend saving up for a 9060 or 5070 if possible. Better performance will make a big difference.

Honestly, if you can, go for something better than the 5050. A 3060 or even an Arc B580 would provide better performance for a similar investment. The 5050 is really underwhelming compared to what else you could get right now!

Exactly! If you're leaning towards newer titles, you'll want something more powerful.

Couldn't agree more! The state of gaming means you need that extra power.
