I'm considering upgrading my CPU from a 5700X to a 7600X3D while gaming at 1440P with an RTX 4070. I found a combo deal for the 7600X3D and motherboard for $375, but I'm a bit hesitant due to the additional cost of RAM. Would this upgrade really improve my gaming performance significantly, or is it just a waste of money?

The performance gain from upgrading to the 7600X3D can vary a lot depending on what games you're playing. In some titles, you might see a big difference, with FPS jumping up by around 100% in some cases, like in Escape from Tarkov. But in other games, the increase might be negligible, just around 5% or so. It’s definitely worth considering what games you play most.
Whether you'll see a big difference really comes down to your setup and what you feel is lacking. If you’re mostly playing AAA games on a 1440P monitor, you might be hitting a GPU bottleneck. In that case, a better CPU won't do much other than polish your gameplay a bit. But if you’re into competitive gaming where a CPU bottleneck happens, then the 7600X3D could improve your experience considerably.

Yeah, I play a lot of titles that are pretty CPU-intensive, like Baldur’s Gate 3 and Battlefield 6, and I noticed a significant speed bump with the 7600X3D compared to the 5700X.
