I currently have 8GB of DDR5 RAM running at 5600 MHz on my laptop. I mainly play games like BeamNG.drive, Fortnite, and Minecraft, and they run fine until I launch Discord or other applications. I'm wondering how much RAM would improve my gaming and multitasking experience. Should I just add another 8GB stick, or is it better to switch to a new 16GB or 32GB kit? Also, do I really need more than 16GB?

Go for as much RAM as you can fit within your budget! It’ll definitely help with performance. If you're limited financially, consider getting another 8GB stick, but keep in mind that mixing RAM can sometimes lead to compatibility issues.
If you're strapped for cash and don't plan on gaming heavily on your laptop after you get a new desktop, adding another 8GB stick could work fine for now. Just try to match the existing RAM brand. Long term, though, especially for gaming, think about going for the bigger 32GB kit.
Honestly, 8GB is pretty low these days, especially with Windows taking up a big chunk of it. Most people recommend at least 16GB now, and if you're a heavy multitasker or gamer, 32GB would be ideal. I'm using 16GB on one machine and it's smooth sailing. My new rig has 32GB and I have no plans to upgrade for a while.
If you can, aim for 32GB. Those kits are becoming the standard for gaming PCs, and you'll benefit from the extra space if you're multitasking. You could stick with 16GB initially, but having the option for upgrades later is a big plus.
Since your 8GB is not soldered, definitely install matched pairs for better performance. If you find a 16GB kit, that would be a great upgrade too. Just be careful with mixing brands as it could lead to stability issues.
