Is it worth upgrading to a 1440P 27″ monitor from a 1080P 24″?

I'm contemplating whether to upgrade my current 1080P 24" 165Hz TN monitor to a 1440P 27" 180Hz IPS/VA monitor. Some folks mention the difference isn't significant, so I'm uncertain if the $200 extra cost is justified. I mostly game and browse, favor vibrant colors, and want to ensure I'm making a solid choice here. What do you all think?

There's really no right or wrong answer here—it comes down to what you want. If you’re looking for improved visuals and a better overall experience, that matters. But to help you decide, it would be useful to know why you're considering the upgrade in the first place. What are you hoping to gain?

I want to enjoy my games more; I feel like my current monitor isn't doing them justice. I prioritize vibrant colors and just want to make sure I'm not wasting money on upgrades that don’t matter.

Yep, I would suggest going for it—just steer clear of VA panels if possible. They might have some color issues that could spoil the experience.

But that VA monitor got great reviews for colors! What’s the deal with that?

If your system can support it and the price is right for you, I say go for it! Having a higher resolution like 1440p means you'll get a clearer image overall due to increased pixel density. Plus, the higher refresh rate could enhance your gaming experience, especially if you play competitive games. You won't know for sure until you try it out, and if it doesn’t work for you, you can always revert back!

How would I go back if I don’t like it? I know 1440p looks better, but is it really worth an extra $200 just for that? It seems like a lot for just a resolution change.

Just to note, while you'll get a higher refresh rate on the new monitor, the overall framerate might not be higher. Just something to consider!

You won’t see a massive fps boost with the new monitor, but the resolution switch will be noticeable. If you're planning to stick with 1080p on a 1440p screen, it could look a bit blurry due to the scaling. Decide if you’re committed to 1440p, and if so, then definitely upgrade! Otherwise, stick with what you have.

I’m planning on using my current monitor as a second screen, so I can balance between the two if I can't get solid frames on the new one. Still curious if the cost is justified for that upgrade.
