Is KDE a Good Choice for Linux?

I'm looking for opinions on using KDE for my Linux installation. I initially tried Fedora with KDE Kionite over Gnome because Gnome felt alien to me. However, I ran into issues with the Fedora installer after five days of trying to get it running, so I switched to Manjaro KDE, which supports Flatpak, deb, and the Arch User Repo. I've really enjoyed the terminal in Manjaro, but I'm curious about performance. I've heard that Gnome might not perform as well as KDE when gaming in borderless mode. My setup has 12GB of RAM with a Pentium G4560, so I'd appreciate any insights on this comparison!

Manjaro XFCE is also a great option if you're looking for something lightweight, which can give you a smoother gaming experience too.

Oooo, good suggestion! I'll have to check it out.

I use Linux Mint with a Cinnamon desktop customized to look like macOS, but I can also jump into KDE when I want variety. Both desktops have their charm, but customizing can really change your experience. It's nice to have options!

You do have a point. Staring at the same interface all the time can get boring.

I think KDE is definitely better than Gnome, especially if you're concerned about performance. If you're really strapped for resources, you might want to look into lighter alternatives like XFCE or a window manager, but going back to Gnome could hurt your gaming performance.

Sounds like Gnome isn't a good choice if you're trying to maximize performance, then.

Really? I thought KDE would feel heavier, but Gnome definitely seems not to help with performance.
