Is Linux a Good Choice for Gaming and Music Production?

Hey everyone! I'm currently a Windows 11 user and I'm quite curious about switching to Linux for its customization options that Windows lacks. My specs are Ryzen 5 5600X, RX 570 8GB, and 16GB RAM on a B-550f ROG motherboard. I'm particularly interested in a specific skin I found on GitHub, but I'm unsure if I should go with Arch Linux since I've heard it's not beginner-friendly.

I do quite a bit of gaming, playing titles like Cyberpunk 2077, GTA 5, and more via Steam, with some games on the EA Launcher and Game Pass. Will those work on Linux? For music production, I mainly use Ableton Live, which I know doesn't run on Linux, so that's why I'm considering a dual boot.

I have two drives: a 500GB C: Drive for Windows and a 1TB D: Drive for Linux and my games. What's the process to set up dual booting? Will I be able to access files from both drives? Do I need to reinstall GPU drivers for Linux? Can I set which OS boots by default? I'd really appreciate any guidance!

You might run into some hurdles. A few of the games you mentioned, like Ableton Live, Roblox, and the Xbox Game Pass, might not work well on Linux. Dual booting is probably your best bet if you want to stick with Windows for those specific apps. Check out a detailed guide on installing Arch and dual booting - the Arch Wiki has a wealth of info, even if it's a bit complex. For that skin you like, you'll need a minimal Arch setup with 'yay' and 'git'. If you're struggling, using a derivative like CachyOS could be a good alternative! Also, your hardware should be fine; you likely won’t need extra drivers for your GPU.

I actually run Roblox on my Arch setup using a client called Sober, and it works just fine!
