I'm looking for advice regarding an old Dell Windows PC that my family owns, which is quite slow. My grandfather mainly uses it for watching Netflix, YouTube, managing his online bank account, and handling emails, both private and work-related. I want to know if switching to Linux would be a safe option for these activities, especially concerning banking and email security. Additionally, could you recommend user-friendly Linux distributions suitable for my grandfather? Thanks!

As far as safety goes, Linux is a good choice for the tasks you've listed. Distros like Mint or even Vivaldi instead of Chrome can offer a solid user experience. Just ensuring your grandfather sticks to commonly used software can help keep things safe.

I agree that Linux Mint is very user-friendly. You could also consider setting up big icons for Netflix and banking sites on the desktop to make it easier for your grandfather to navigate. Just a little tinkering with the setup can make a big difference!

Yes, Linux is generally a secure operating system for those types of activities. Just remember to keep it up to date to maintain its security. For beginners, I recommend trying Linux Mint. It's user-friendly and well-supported, so it’s perfect for someone like your grandfather. Another option might be Ubuntu or Fedora if you want to explore different interfaces!

Linux is definitely safer than Windows, mainly because of its package management system. For ease of use, Mint is a great choice, and it’ll help reduce the chances of security issues. Just make sure your grandfather knows to update the system regularly!
