Hey everyone! I own a 16-inch MacBook Pro from 2019, and lately, it feels like it's been running pretty slow compared to the newer models. I haven't tried formatting it or anything yet, but I'm worried about its future. I've read that macOS Tahoe will be the last version supported on my Mac, which is a bummer because it seems like Apple's limiting support to around 5 years to focus on their newer Apple processors.
I'm really wondering:
1. Should I upgrade to Tahoe, or will it just make my machine even slower with all the new graphics effects?
2. Is it time to sell my MacBook and switch to a new M4 model?
Would love to hear your thoughts. Thanks!

If you're hesitant about Tahoe, try installing it on an external bootable drive first. You can check how it performs before committing!
You mentioned that Tahoe will work on your Mac, so you'll stay current for about 14 months at least, and it won't just stop working after that. As for sluggishness, just ensure you have backups, and consider doing a fresh install with Tahoe. It might help with performance!
You could always consider trying Linux on it if you’re looking for an alternative! Just a thought.
If you've got the budget, going for the M4 will be a big upgrade—think of it like switching from standard definition to 4K! But the glass effects in Tahoe shouldn't bog down your Mac too much. Just remember, after 4 years, anything else is a bonus. Hardware evolves quickly, so don't hesitate to look into replacements down the line!
Even if you skip the update to Tahoe, your Mac won't be completely useless right away. You'll still get security updates, so it shouldn't suddenly stop working. So don't stress too much about that part!
The usual support span of 5 to 7 years was pretty solid until Apple Silicon came around. Now, it's a game changer in performance. So if you're feeling cornered with your current machine, maybe it’s time to consider an upgrade. Remember: "Jump before you're pushed." It might be time to leap!

Yeah, I have backups. But the thought of formatting and reinstalling everything feels like such a hassle!
