Is My CPU Holding Back My RTX 3080 Performance?

I've got an AMD Ryzen 5 5600 paired with an RTX 3080 Suprim X, and I'm starting to feel like one of these components might be bottlenecking the other. My system runs most games pretty well, but I'm not hitting the frame rates I expected. For instance, in Assetto Corsa I only get about 70 frames, and in The Finals, I peak at 170, even though I'm running everything on the lowest settings. I've got a 300Hz 1440p monitor and would love to consistently hit 300 frames per second in all my games. Do you think it's just impossible to reach those numbers with a 3080? I suspect the Ryzen 5 5600 might be the issue, but will upgrading it really boost my frame rates? I'm not looking to spend over $800-$1000 on an upgrade. Is there a simple optimization I can do, or would I need to upgrade both the GPU and CPU? Is there a CPU in the $200-$400 range that you'd recommend? I also heard about the Ryzen 9 5950X, but would that really solve my problems? Any advice would be much appreciated! 🙂

It's tough to hit 300 FPS in every game with just a 3080, especially since games are getting more demanding. A solid GPU for sure, but your games vary in how they utilize the CPU. If you’re hitting around 70 frames in Assetto Corsa, that’s pretty much the norm for racing sims. Even the 3080 can struggle to hit high FPS consistently in CPU-heavy scenarios.

Yeah, I play a mix as well and definitely feel the strain in more intense titles. Honestly, if you're aiming for higher frames, your CPU will play a huge role!
