My dad just got a gaming PC yesterday, featuring a Ryzen 5800X3D CPU and a Radeon RX 7700XT GPU. He's playing AAA games like GTA 5 at 1440p with a 75Hz refresh rate, but I'm planning to help him upgrade his monitor soon. My question is: is his CPU overkill for this setup, and more generally, is this a good combination for gaming?

The Ryzen 5800X3D isn't overkill for gaming, but it might be on the pricier side right now. A Ryzen 7600X could offer similar performance for about $100-150 less. Upgrading to a 1440p 144Hz monitor would definitely enhance the gaming experience!
Thanks for the tip! We grabbed the PC for half the price from a friend, so it wasn't too big of an issue for us. Just to clarify, I got a Ryzen 5600X and an RX 7600XT for my own build. Is that a solid combo?
