Is My GPU Acting Up?

I've had my gaming rig running smoothly for years, but lately, I'm experiencing some serious issues. Specifically, games either crash on startup or randomly during gameplay. To clarify, when I say crash, I mean the display output from the GPU stops, but the computer itself continues running.

Here's my build: AMD 5700x CPU, 32GB of RAM, Nvidia 3080 12GB GPU, and I'm on Windows 11.

I've already tried several troubleshooting steps: I rolled back my Nvidia drivers, clean-installed new ones, removed all overclocks, replaced GPU fans, and installed new thermal pads including a graphene thermal pad for the GPU core. My temps are excellent—33°C at idle and 70°C under full load with Furmark.

Some games still work but perform oddly slower than before. For example, I'm only getting 60fps in Resident Evil 7 (which doesn't crash), while COD MW3 crashes after one match, Gears 5 crashes upon loading, and Doom 2016 runs slow as well. On the upside, OCCT stress tests pass without issues, Furmark doesn't crash my system, and Crystal Mark shows nothing strange. The Event Viewer also doesn't indicate any problems.

Any ideas on what might be going wrong with my GPU?

It sounds like your power supply could be the culprit. Have you checked the wattage under load? I know you mentioned you installed a new power supply, but sometimes cables can be iffy or you might have a faulty unit. It's worth testing your connections again, and possibly removing any extensions to see if that changes anything. A backup supply may help you troubleshoot too!

The strange part is, I did replace it recently with a Redragon RGPS-850W, which is 80+ Gold certified. I’ll try removing the extension cables and see how it goes. What's the best way to stress test the wattage?

Have you noticed if your PC fans ramp up in speed during the crashes? I had a similar experience with my 3080, and even after trying everything, it kept crashing until one day it just stopped without me changing anything. Sometimes updates can resolve unexplained issues.

Yes, the fans do go full throttle right when the display cuts out.
