Is My New RTX 5060 Ti GPU Malfunctioning?

I just received an RTX 5060 Ti to upgrade from my old RX 580. Initially, everything went smoothly, and I successfully installed the drivers using DDU. All games were functioning well until today when I attempted to play Dying Light in borderless window mode. My PC crashed during this and now it won't display any video at all. I switched back to my RX 580, and everything works fine, so I'm starting to worry if my new GPU is faulty.

Here are my specs:
- B450 Aorus Pro WiFi with the latest BIOS update
- Ryzen 5 5600G
- 2x8GB DDR4 3200MHz
- Corsair VS600 PSU

I've tried several troubleshooting steps, including removing the CMOS battery and shorting the motherboard pins, but nothing seems to change. When I switch back to the old RX 580, I get video output without needing to install drivers. Having run multiple tests with onboard graphics, my system fails to boot with the RTX installed and shows a cycling LED light from CPU to DRAM to VGA before it shuts down.

If you've tried all of this and the new motherboard doesn't resolve the issue, warranty might be your best bet. Just keep your old GPU running in the meantime. Let's hope the new board does the trick for the RTX!

Before concluding your GPU is dead, try completely powering off your system and disconnecting the power supply. Hold the power button for about 10 seconds to discharge any leftover power. Then try booting again. If that doesn't work, you definitely need to test the RTX in another setup if possible to confirm the issue.

I did all that and plugged in my RX 580, and it worked straight away, so I'm a bit worried!

It sounds like the crashes might have caused your motherboard to set the primary display to the iGPU instead of the RTX. Try checking the BIOS settings to change it back to the PCIe slot. Sometimes it gets switched around for unknown reasons when using a new GPU. This could fix your booting issue without assuming the RTX is dead.

Good point! I've encountered that setting before, so it's definitely worth a look before you start stressing about hardware failures.
