Is My SSD Failing? Here’s What’s Happening

I've been having some serious issues with my SSD lately. For the past few weeks, I've noticed it's really slowed down. The max read and write speeds were supposed to be around 1000 MB/s, but now I'm lucky to get over 30 MB/s. It's been struggling to handle updates, and that's getting frustrating.

Sometimes, it seems to crash completely—showing 100% uptime (not storage) and slowing my PC to a crawl. After a while, it just boots to BIOS over and over, but then out of nowhere, it works again.

For context, I have an Adata 700 Gold 1TB SSD where Windows is installed. I know it's not ideal since my pre-built system didn't let me set it up differently. I have a 4TB drive for games, but the SSD is nearly filled to around 200-100 GB.

I'd love some advice on what might be causing this—could it be a virus, the SSD itself failing, or perhaps a bad update? This is getting super annoying, especially since it's crashed like five times in the past two months!

From what you're describing, it sounds like your SSD is failing. The issues with booting into BIOS and the major slowdowns are classic signs of hardware failure. I recommend backing up any important files immediately. Running a health check with a tool like CrystalDiskInfo or an ADATA utility can provide insights. If you find bad sectors, it may be time to get a new SSD and reinstall Windows on that. It’s unlikely to be a virus; it’s mostly hardware problems.

I thought it might be a virus too, but I ran three different antivirus scans, and everything came back clean! I also used ADATA's tool, and it reported that the SSD was healthy, which is puzzling.

It’s possible that the utility might not be catching early signs of failure. Sometimes, SSDs can report as healthy while still having issues. Definitely keep an eye on it and consider upgrading soon!
