Hey, I'm upgrading my GPU and torn between the 5070 Ti and the 5080. The pricing is all over the place, and sometimes the 5070 Ti ends up being almost as expensive as the 5080, which complicates things. My setup includes a Ryzen 7 7700 and 32 GB of DDR5 RAM, but my motherboard only supports PCIe 4.0. Will using the 5080 on that interface significantly impact performance?
More importantly, I'm concerned about my power supply. I'm currently using an Apevia 1000 W PSU, which is somewhat dubious, and it doesn't have the standard 12 V 2x6 pin connectors for newer GPUs. I'd likely need adapters to connect it properly. How many would I need, and is it safe to use a PSU like this with a 5080? I haven't faced any issues yet, but I wouldn't want to risk damaging an expensive GPU over power supply problems. If I need a new PSU but can't afford one, would opting for the 5070 Ti or an RX 9070 be a better choice?

PCIe 4.0 can handle the bandwidth of an RTX 5080 just fine. As for your PSU, it's rated C tier, which isn't great, but it should still work without frying your GPU. Just make sure the setup is secure and monitor the performance during heavy loads.
Using PCIe 4.0 should be totally fine; there are videos online proving its efficiency. Your 80+ Gold 1000W PSU should handle the 5080, but given that it’s not a well-known brand, I'd advise taking a closer look at its internal specifications before deciding. If your adapter has a 3 x 8-pin setup, you will need at least that many connectors to safely use the 5080.
You won't experience any significant performance loss with PCIe 4.0. Just be cautious with the 12HPWR connectors; I would recommend avoiding them with a less reliable PSU unless you find a strong, credible adapter. It's just safer in the long run.
I wouldn't trust that PSU long-term, especially with the 5080 requiring more power. It’s best to invest in a reliable power supply that’s rated better. There are good options out there that are reasonably priced, all rated A or higher. This way, you can avoid any potential issues down the line.

I understand that, but won't the 5080 come with an adapter if my PSU doesn't have the right connector?
