Is Single Drive Dual Booting Worth the Risk?

I'm a Linux newbie looking to set up my system and I want to make Linux Mint my main operating system. However, I also need Windows on standby for specific tasks, like gaming. Since I'm a student and strapped for cash, I can't afford a second hard drive right now. I've had enough of Microsoft's issues, and I just want control over my system. So, I'm curious: how risky is it to dual boot on a single drive? Is it really as problematic as people make it out to be, especially considering Windows likes to override GRUB and set itself as the default OS?

It's generally good practice to install Windows first, then Linux. If you ever manage to get a second drive, make sure to unplug the first drive while installing Windows on the second one. Installing Linux is usually straightforward compared to Windows when it comes to partitioning, but Windows might mess things up if you're not careful.

I already have Windows set up and prepared a Linux USB. What should I specifically watch out for when I start the installation?

Check out the tips in the installation wiki. It's packed with useful information! One common tip I’ve learned is to always connect directly via ethernet during the installation, and don’t forget to remove your boot media when you’re done. It prevents a lot of potential issues later on!
