I've been a lifelong Windows user and I'm really tired of it. I'm thinking about switching to Linux mainly because I game a lot and also do some video editing on the side. I usually run games from Steam and GOG, and for editing, I use DaVinci Resolve. I know it's possible to use Linux for these purposes, but I'm curious about the actual experience. Are there any significant issues with running games and doing video editing on Linux compared to Windows? Additionally, what Linux distributions would you recommend for my needs?

I’d suggest trying out Linux Mint. It's known for being user-friendly and you’re likely to encounter the least amount of issues.
It's true that some games, especially those with anti-cheat systems, may not work on Linux. You can check websites like protondb.com and areweanticheatyet.com for compatibility information. Video editing on Linux is definitely doable, and DaVinci Resolve runs well too. I recommend starting with Kubuntu—it's user-friendly and most things work out of the box!
I used Pop!_OS for two months before switching to CachyOS, which I've stuck with for about six months now. I had great gaming performance right from the start, except for some issues with Diablo 4 and Resurrected. I installed it on both my laptop and my main PC without any real problems.
Xubuntu is another solid choice. While some say it's not the best, it offers great compatibility and stability, plus a supportive community. Just be aware that games with kernel-based anti-cheats won't run on Linux. If you're into single-player games, Wine is a fantastic option to emulate Windows applications. Steam's Proton also helps in running many Windows games. Good luck! And hey, if you end up going with Xubuntu, consider me your biggest fan! Also, check out Waydroid if you're interested in Android emulation.

Yep, Kubuntu is great. It’s simple to use and most devices and applications should work without hassle.
