Is the 9060XT a Good Choice for Experiencing 1440p Gaming?

I'm not a hardware guru, but I've put together four PCs. Currently, I'm using a 1660 Super and I'm thinking about an upgrade. I typically play competitive games like CS2 and Rocket League at 1080p, but I'm considering giving 1440p a shot—especially for multiplayer PVE and single-player games. I believe I can switch between 1080p and 1440p pretty easily by adjusting in-game settings or my Windows settings, as long as my monitor supports native 1440p. Is that a reasonable assumption, or am I missing something important? I'm looking at the 9060XT for my upgrade since it seems fitting for my needs, though I'm aware it may struggle with future AAA titles or some current ones unless I use FSR4/frame generation. I'd rather not break the bank on a 9070XT, which is around $850 CAD. What do you all think about the 9060XT for dipping my toes into 1440p gaming? Will I regret not opting for the 9070XT?

If a 3070 can manage it, the 9060XT should be able to do the job too! So I think you're on the right track.

The 9060XT should handle 1440p pretty well as long as you're okay with reducing some graphical settings if needed. Just make sure to go for the 16GB version; it definitely helps at both 1080p and 1440p.

Switching to a 1440p monitor for 1080p games will work, but quality might dip a bit since the resolution won't line up perfectly. Tools like FSR and lossless scaling can really help improve the performance, allowing you to upscale nicely without a huge hit.

A solid approach is to get the 9060XT and enable AMD's VSR to try out 1440p before buying a new monitor. Just keep in mind you'll probably wish you went for the 9070XT eventually since it's noticeably stronger. But if budget constraints are a concern, weigh your options carefully!

Thanks! I hadn't thought of trying VSR first. How does 1440p VSR compare visually on a 1080p monitor?

Definitely go for the 9060XT 16GB if you're on a budget! It's not as powerful as the 9070XT, but it offers decent value for 1440p gaming. You can play 1080p games on a 1440p monitor, and with some scaling options, you should still have a great experience.
