Is the AERO G Ultra Motherboard Worth It for Gaming with a 5090 Combo?

I'm about to buy a 5090 combo from Newegg, but it has an Intel motherboard, and I'm wondering if the AERO G Ultra is a good choice for gaming. I'm currently upgrading from an i9-10850K and was originally looking to go with AMD. Also, just to note, I only game at 4K, so I need something that can handle that well. Any thoughts?

The AERO G Ultra can work fine, especially if you overclock it and pair it with some fast RAM. Since you're gaming at 4K, you should be alright with it. Just make sure to optimize your setup!

Yes, I only play at 4K.

Honestly, Intel's combo isn't usually as strong as AMD's offerings. I'd suggest selling any parts you don't plan to use, even if it means taking a small hit. I ordered one with an extra PSU I don't need, so I'll just sell that off at a slight loss too.

But is the Gigabyte AERO Ultra motherboard decent though?

Yeah, I plan to sell my old stuff too. I was thinking of switching to AMD, but I think I'll stick with Intel for now.

The 265K is slower than both the 13th and 14th gen CPUs, and it's significantly lagging behind the X3D in gaming. Also, there's chatter about Intel moving away from this socket for their next-gen CPUs, so it's worth thinking about that. AMD's AM5 board will be supported until 2027, giving you more upgrade options down the line.

Just a heads up, you're looking at a single-gen platform with this setup, so you won't be upgrading past the Ultra 9. That's something to consider for future-proofing your build.

To answer your question on the 265K, it's not particularly great for gaming. It trails 10% behind the 13700K, matches the Ryzen 9 7900X (non-X3D), and falls about 25% short of the 9800X3D. Keep in mind that most reviews test at lower resolutions, so differences shrink at 1440p and 4K - you'll likely run into GPU bottlenecks anyway!

Yep, I only play at 4K.

Is the i9-14900K a better option then?
