Hey everyone! I'm in the process of building my first PC and I'm not too savvy on the components just yet. I'm considering using the AMD Ryzen 9 7950X for the CPU and the RX 7900 XT for the GPU. Do you think this is a solid combo? My goal is to enjoy gaming on ultra settings with high FPS and ray tracing capabilities. Also, I'll be using the PC for some video and music production, ranging from mild to heavy tasks. Any advice or thoughts?

Here's a breakdown for you: go with the 7800X3D or 7900X3D for gaming. For motherboards, consider B650 or X670, and I'd suggest at least 32GB of 6000 CL30 memory. For the GPU, if ray tracing is important, look at the RX 9070XT or NVIDIA's 5070Ti. They're both solid for 1440p gaming without breaking the bank. Also, ensure a decent power supply—850W gold rated should work well for you!
Honestly, if gaming is your main focus, the 7950X might be overkill. I'd recommend looking into the Ryzen 7 7800X3D or 7900X3D instead. For ray tracing, consider an NVIDIA 40 or 50 series GPU or the RX 9070 series. The RX 7900 XT isn't the best when it comes to ray tracing performance, so you might want to switch that out for better options.
Since I'll be using the PC for video and music production too, should I still stick with the 7800X3D?
The 7950X is more geared towards heavy workloads with its 16 cores, but for gaming, the 7800X3D or 7900X3D has better performance thanks to its cache. You could consider a used 7950X3D if you want both power and gaming prowess. Just remember to go for a 2x RAM kit—AMD systems typically run into issues with 4x setups.
For music production, do you think I should still go with the 7800X3D?
Would the 7800X3D handle heavy music production tasks well?
