Hey folks! I'm building a new PC and I need some advice on compatibility. I'm planning to pair an AMD Ryzen 9 9950X3D with the ASUS PRIME B650M-A AX6 WIFI 6 AM5 DDR5 motherboard. Since this motherboard has an AM5 socket, I assume it should work, but I'm unsure about specific details like BIOS support and if the VRM can handle such a powerful CPU. Here are my main questions:
- Will it work straight out of the box, or do I need to update the BIOS?
- Is the VRM robust enough to support the Ryzen 9 9950X3D without issues?
Thanks for any insights!

Yes, it is compatible, but it's not the best choice. You might need a BIOS update to get it working, especially if the motherboard is an older model. Even though the B650 could accommodate the Ryzen 9 9950X3D, I wouldn't trust it under heavy loads due to inadequate VRM cooling. If you can swing it, consider a B850 board for better stability and performance.
I wouldn't recommend using that motherboard with the Ryzen 9 9950X3D. While it might technically work, the VRM cooling is pretty poor, and it may struggle with power delivery. It might be better to look for a higher-end board like a B850 or something in that range for a CPU of that caliber. A strong motherboard can make a big difference!
In short, yes, the board will work with the Ryzen 9 9950X3D, but don't expect stellar performance. It has a limited VRM setup that might overheat, and while it can handle the CPU, it may not be reliable under peak usage. If you’re in the market for something more budget-friendly, I know some decent options that offer better performance without breaking the bank!
I’m located in Argentina, so my options are a bit limited and higher-end boards are often really pricey. I need something that performs well but fits my budget, while still keeping the CPU.
