Is the Gigabyte B650 EAGLE AX Good for a 9800x3d Upgrade? Should I Consider the B850 Instead?

Hey folks! I'm looking to upgrade my gaming rig (currently running a 5900x with 64GB RAM and a 9070XT) to a 9800x3d. I've managed to snag a reasonably priced kit of 32GB DDR5 RAM, and with skyrocketing prices on components, I figure it's time for this upgrade. The plan is to transition my old PC into a server after the upgrade.

I found a deal for a bundle that includes the 9800x3d and the B650 EAGLE AX motherboard for 475 euros. My question is, is this motherboard sufficient to support the 9800x3d? I play casually on a 4K monitor at 60Hz, and my most intensive tasks are usually running Android Studio or streaming games like Battlefield 6 to my MacBook through Sunshine/Moonlight.

I've been building PCs since the Phenom II days, so I'm aware that chipsets don't usually impact performance drastically. However, given the issues surrounding the Asrock 9800x3d, I'm feeling a bit uncertain. Thanks in advance for your advice!

You should be fine with the B650 EAGLE AX. Worst case, you might need to flash your BIOS, but you won’t lose any performance.

That’s a solid deal since the motherboard is only an extra 25 euros! The B650 will work great for now, but if you can swing it, the B850 is better suited for high-end setups like yours.

If you can get your hands on the newer motherboard, I'd say go for it! It’ll give you a little more future-proofing for sure.

I've got the 9800x3d running on a B650 EAGLE AX, and it works perfectly! You're in good hands with that combo.

Honestly, whether you choose the 650 or the 850, you’ll be fine. The 850 is more modern and offers a bit of peace of mind for the future, especially at a low extra cost.
