I'm considering an upgrade and I've come across an i7-12700T priced at $80. Given that the i7-8700K is about four years older, I'm curious if the 12700T offers significant performance improvements despite being a power-limited version. Any thoughts?

Just a heads up, you'll need a new motherboard for the 12700T since it uses a different socket than the 8700K. But if you're planning to upgrade anyway, then it's worth it!
In benchmarks, the 12700T is significantly faster than the 8700K. So if performance is your goal, it’s a solid choice!
That's good to know! How much of a performance boost are we talking about?
Considering that the i7-12700T is from a newer generation, it should definitely outperform the 8700K, even with the T version being power limited. Generally, newer architectures bring better efficiency and performance, so I'd say go for it!
Yeah, even a single generation difference usually means a decent performance lift.
No problem! I actually need to replace my motherboard since my current one only supports up to 9th gen.
