I'm currently trying to decide if spending an extra $800 on the 9800X3D with the 5080 graphics card is worth it compared to the 7800X3D paired with a 5070 Ti. I mainly play AAA titles and some online MMORPGs at 1440p, and I'm hoping to run these games at ultra settings. I've been using a setup with a 6700K and 980 Ti since 2016, so I'd like this new one to last at least five years. Additionally, I'm curious about which motherboard chipset I should consider, as I might do some light overclocking.

I've got a 7800X3D with a 5080 and can say the GPU really is the bottleneck for most people. If you're gaming at 4K or VR, the 5080 might make more sense, but for 1440p gaming, I question if that extra performance is worth the price. You might find better value down the line instead of overpaying now.
Honestly, I don't think spending that extra $800 is worth it. You'll get a performance boost, but both setups are great for 1440p. The 5080 might give you around 10-15% more frames, but if you're just after ultra settings on AAA games, the 5070 Ti can handle it pretty well too. Better to save that cash for future upgrades!
From what I've seen, the performance difference is mostly down to the GPUs. The 5080 averages about 10-15% better than the 5070 Ti. A lot of people feel that the price difference isn't justified, especially considering the 5070 Ti is significantly cheaper. I'd recommend saving the money for a future upgrade instead.
You'd be better off with the 7800X3D + 5070 Ti combo and maybe invest in a nice OLED monitor! The extra cost for the 5080 isn't justified since both setups will do well at 1440p ultra.
True, I've been thinking the 5080 might drop in price once the new models come out. Holding off could be smart.
