Is There a Microsoft-Free Version of VS Code for Ubuntu?

Hey everyone, I'm looking for a version of Visual Studio Code that doesn't include any Microsoft advertisements or features, especially for Ubuntu. I'm really tired of seeing AI pop-ups and Microsoft's marketing tactics. Does anyone know if there's a way to get a clean, de-Microsofted version of VS Code, maybe through snap or apt package?

You might want to check out VSCodium! It's basically what you're looking for, a version of VS Code without all the Microsoft extras. You can find more info and get it at vscodium.com. It's available on most platforms, so it should work for you!

Does it work with plugins? I set up a VS Code server on my home server, and I couldn't figure out how to add any repositories. It’s kind of limited without plugins!

Just to add to what others have said, VSCodium is basically a 1:1 clone of VS Code without any of the Microsoft telemetry. I'm not sure if it has all the same extensions available, but it’s pretty similar in functionality.

Exactly! It really is the same software code-wise, just minus the telemetry features. That's the main difference!

VSCodium is definitely the way to go. It’s almost identical to VS Code but without Microsoft's proprietary stuff and telemetry. You'll enjoy the open-source vibe and it comes from the community, so it's clean!
