Is there a one-click backup tool for configs and important data when distro hopping?

I'm looking for a simple solution to back up my important configuration files like those for fish shell and kitty terminal, as well as my current GNOME and KDE themes, key folders in my home directory, and browser data. When I switch distros or reinstall the same one, it can be a real hassle keeping track of everything I need to back up. Does anyone know of a dedicated tool that can handle all this with just one click?

A couple of popular tools for managing dotfiles like your configs are **stow** and **chezmoi**. I'd recommend **chezmoi** since it fits your needs really well. It can be a bit complex to set up initially, but once it's running, you'll find it handy for backing up everything you need.

I was thinking of making something on my own, but chezmoi looks interesting!

Have you checked out **savedesktop**? It's a flatpak that could help with your situation. It might be a good stop for what you're looking for!

You might simply use **rsync** to back up your entire home directory, including your dotfiles. It's a reliable and flexible tool for making backups.
