I'm setting up a new MacBook Air and one of the tasks is to handle notifications. I find them pretty distracting and not really useful, so I'm looking for a way to turn them off completely. I usually only revisit this question during big Mac OS updates or when I get a new machine every few years. Is there a way to disable all notifications at once, or do I really have to go through each app's settings individually?

I totally get the frustration. Apple really pushes the integration between devices, and it can backfire. I'd love to see more customizable options too, like turning off notifications on the Mac without it affecting the iPhone.
Unfortunately, there's no universal switch to turn off all notifications at once. You have to go in manually for each app to disable them. It's a bit tedious, but that's how it is right now.
If you're looking for a quick fix, you can just enable Do Not Disturb mode. Just be cautious; it can sync between your devices. One user shared that it accidentally silenced important work calls on their iPhone, which ended up costing them a lot of money.
