Is there any way to recover videos that I permanently deleted?

I recently deleted a couple of videos from my phone while working on an edit because I thought they were unnecessary. At the time, they seemed completely useless, but now I've realized that one video was actually important and I need it back. The problem is, I don't have any backups of those files. Can anyone help me figure out if there's a way to recover those permanently deleted videos?

Also, keep in mind that deleted files aren’t always gone forever immediately. Depending on the file system of your phone, when you delete something, it might just mark that space as free without actually erasing the data. If you act fast, a forensic disk app might help, but this can get complicated. Just be cautious about using your phone too much after deleting those videos. You don't want new files overwriting the old ones!

Interesting! But are there even any phones that use magnetic disks anymore?

Have you checked if your videos were backed up automatically? Many smartphones have a feature that moves deleted items to a Trash Can or Recently Deleted album for a short period before permanently removing them. If you use an iPhone, for instance, check the Recently Deleted folder in your Photos app. If they're there, you can restore them easily!

It depends on how you deleted those files. If you connected your phone to a PC and deleted them using your computer, they might be gone instantly since it doesn't usually move them to a Trash or similar area. But if it was from the phone directly, there's often a holding area. So, what method did you use to delete those videos?

I did it from the phone itself, so I’m hoping they’re in a hidden folder somewhere!

It sounds like a tough situation! When someone says 'permanently deleted,' it usually means those files are gone for good. However, if you just deleted them from a regular file manager on your phone, they might not be completely lost yet. There are some free file recovery apps you could try—just search for them online. But here's the catch: if you've done any new writing tasks on your phone since deleting, the space where those videos were could have been overwritten, and if that happens, recovery is unlikely. So, the sooner you act, the better!

Thanks for the tip! Should I avoid using my phone as much as possible until I try that?

You might want to check platforms like Google Photos or iCloud if your phone automatically uploads photos and videos. Sometimes, even if you delete them from your local storage, they might still be saved in the cloud. Just log in and take a look!
