Is there software that visually guides you on screen for using a computer?

I'm trying to help my mom use her MacBook, but she often struggles to find the right buttons while following along with tutorial videos. When I try screen sharing, I can't always be around due to work, and written instructions can leave her confused. Is there any software that highlights or points to the things she needs to click, similar to old game tutorials that directed players? I've searched online but only found remote desktop options or more tutorial videos. Any suggestions?

Not the exact answer you’re after, but since you mentioned it's a MacBook, sometimes the tutorials are for outdated operating systems. Just double-check that she’s not following something that no longer applies. And remember, if she’s eager to spend time with you, that’s just as important.

There isn't really a universal tool that can point out where to click, mainly because it would have to know exactly what you're trying to do first. If it could do that, it would just do it for you instead of showing you how to do it yourself. You're basically looking for an automation option if that's the case.

Have you tried adjusting the display settings? Increasing the display scaling can make everything larger and easier for her to see. It might help her locate all the buttons more easily.

Zoom screen share has a markup feature that could be beneficial, where you can draw on her screen while she controls it. This way, she can follow your instructions visually. Alternatively, if she can watch the video on her phone, she could keep both screens open.
