I'm putting together a budget-friendly PC for my child who mostly plays Minecraft, Roblox, and Teardown. The total cost came to about $550 after tax and shipping, and I aimed to keep it simple without going overboard. Here's the breakdown of the build:
- GPU: B580 - $250
- CPU, Motherboard, Cooler, NVME bundle: $140
- CPU: 5500
- Motherboard: Gigabyte B550M Gaming X
- NVME: P400 500GB
- Cooler: Hyper 212 (swapped for the stock cooler)
- RAM: 16GB SK Hynix (2nd hand eBay) - $32
- Case: CH360 - $41
- PSU: Raidmax Cobra 750W - $45
I'm a bit worried about the PSU and the RAM, plus I suspect the GPU might require some troubleshooting, but I've heard it's mostly an issue with older games. Any thoughts on my selections?

I'd be cautious about that PSU! The rest of your components seem solid for a kid's first rig, though. Many kids deal with integrated graphics, so this should be a nice upgrade.
The RAM should work fine! SK Hynix makes good DDR5, and for this budget, it sounds reasonable. Just keep an eye on that PSU, though!
Thanks for your insight! I might just swap the PSU with mine when I upgrade.
This setup is great for what he’ll be playing! Minecraft, Roblox, and Teardown won't stress the build too much. Your main concern is indeed the PSU. It’s crucial for preventing issues in the future, so if possible, consider investing in a better quality one. The 16GB RAM will definitely do the job, and the B580 should handle the games just fine, although it might need some driver tweaks for optimal performance. Overall, good job on keeping costs low!
Thanks for your insight!
I'm using the Hyper 212 because it came with the bundle. The stock cooler had some issues, so I figured it was safer to use the Hyper 212. I'll also upgrade my PC in the next year or two, which will let me transfer my PSU to this one.

Thanks for your insight! I might just swap the PSU with mine when I upgrade.
