Is Upgrading from a Ryzen 5 3600 to a Ryzen 7 5700X Worth It?

I'm considering upgrading my CPU from a Ryzen 5 3600 to a Ryzen 7 5700X. I initially wanted to move to AM5 but the timing just isn't right for me financially. Even before the recent RAM price hikes, making the jump to AM5 was a stretch. I thought about getting a Ryzen 7 5800X3D, but they're priced ridiculously high at around 500 euros here, and I can't even find a Ryzen 7 5800X available. So now I'm looking at the 5700X instead. Do you think this upgrade is worth it? How much better performance can I realistically expect, especially considering I have a RX 9070XT in my build? I'm feeling kind of strapped for cash at the moment.

Yes, definitely! The Ryzen 7 should give you better performance in most scenarios, particularly with demanding titles.

It depends on your monitor setup. I have a similar setup with a 3700X and a 9070XT and I play on a 1440p monitor. So far, I haven't really felt any CPU bottlenecks, but that might be because I mostly play older or indie games. The only game that struggles a bit with my CPU is Euro Truck Simulator 2 in certain areas. If you're mostly gaming on one screen, you might be fine, but if you're playing AAA titles, the upgrade could definitely help.

AMD is rumored to be releasing more AM4 CPUs, so if you're not in a rush, you might want to wait for those updates. It could benefit you long-term.

Do you have a source for that? If there's more coming, I’d be really happy to hear it!

Absolutely, I think upgrading to the 5700X is worth it! You'll see a noticeable performance boost, especially in more demanding games and tasks. The 7 series has better multi-threading and should complement your GPU well, giving you smoother gameplay and better frame rates overall.
