Is Upgrading from an R5 3600 to an R7 7700X Worth It?

I'm currently using an R5 3600 CPU paired with an RTX 5070 graphics card. Lately, I've noticed some performance bottlenecking, and I've seen a lot of recommendations for the R7 7700X as a solid budget-friendly upgrade for my setup. However, when I checked UserBenchmark, it only showed a +35% performance increase for the 7700X compared to the 3600. Is that really going to make a significant difference in gaming? Especially since the 7700X is about four times the price of the 3600, I expected a greater performance boost. I'm hesitant to spend more than £300 ($411), so I'm wondering if it's really worth upgrading or if I should just stick with my R5 3600 for now.

UserBenchmark isn’t the best tool for accurate comparisons. A lot of tech enthusiasts criticize it for skewed results. You might want to check out other sources for benchmarking data instead. Just keep in mind that when considering performance, the R7 7700X being AM5 will require a new motherboard and RAM, which adds to the overall cost. Still, if you're looking for a significant upgrade, the 7700X will definitely outperform the 3600, especially with its additional cores and DDR5 support. It's more than just a slight upgrade if you're gaming seriously!

Thanks for the heads-up! I guess I should explore more reliable benchmarks then.

Have you looked at the R5 7600? It's cheaper and offers very comparable gaming performance to the 7700X. That could save you some cash while still giving you a good bump in performance without needing to change too much of your setup.

Honestly, if you don’t want to purchase a new motherboard and RAM right now, consider the 5700X3D for a mid-range upgrade, which delivers around 50% more performance. It's compatible with your existing setup and comes at a better price point without the hassle of changing everything. If you're aiming for high performance in gaming, I'd say the R7 is great, but it’s also about managing your budget effectively.
