Is Upgrading from Ryzen 5 3600 to Ryzen 7 5800X3D a Good Move?

Hey everyone! I've been gaming on Battlefield 6, and I've noticed my computer really struggles, especially when I try to adjust my sound settings. It lags quite a bit, leaving the sound bar stuck on the screen for a while before it updates. So, I'm contemplating upgrading my CPU to improve performance. I'm considering the Ryzen 7 5800X3D that I found for $359 plus shipping. Do you all think this upgrade is worth it? Here are my current specs:

- Ryzen 5 3600
- RTX 3060 Ti
- 32GB RAM

Thanks for any advice!

Look, there's about a 25% performance difference between your current CPU and the 5800X3D. While you will notice an upgrade, it's worth considering if you want to save for a newer system altogether instead. If you're after a solid leap in performance right away, the 5800X3D will give you that, just don’t forget the potential need for a future budget for a full system upgrade.

I jumped from a Ryzen 5 5600X to the 5800X3D, and while the FPS increase wasn't huge, the performance in multitasking and 1% lows improved noticeably. For you, moving from the 3600, it’d be a pretty significant boost! Plus, the AM4 platform still has some life in it for now.

Honestly, I'd steer clear of the 5800X3D at that price. You could get a 7800X3D for the same cost, which would be a better value overall. A base model like the 7600X or 7500F would also perform quite similarly to the 5800X3D. Think about it, before it was priced right around $180-200, it was a solid upgrade, but now it's a bit pricey.

I'd recommend holding out for an AM5 upgrade. I made the switch from an AM4 Ryzen 5 to the 5800X3D, and while it's decent, I regret not saving for a new platform. If your budget is tight, though, the 5800X3D would still be a step up from your 3600, but keep in mind future upgrades will mean getting a new motherboard and RAM too.

Sure, but not at that price. If you're spending around that much, you might be better off investing in an AM5 system instead. It'll offer a lot more future-proofing than the 5800X3D right now.
