Is Upgrading My 8-Year-Old PC Worth It?

Hey everyone! I'm thinking about upgrading my 8-year-old PC instead of buying a new one and would love your advice on whether that's a smart move or if I should consider other options. Here's what I'm working with:
- ASUS Z170-P
- Intel i7-6700k
- NVIDIA GTX 1070
- 550W PSU
- 16GB DDR4 RAM (2x8GB) at 2133MHz
- Corsair Carbide Series 100R case

I game on a 2K 60Hz monitor. I'm planning to upgrade my GPU and RAM due to budget constraints. Here are the components I'm considering:
- RTX 5060 8GB for $365
- Either 16GB or 32GB of 3200MHz RAM for about $38
- I also want to change the thermal paste on my CPU to help with throttling
- Plus, adding a new fan to the case if feasible

My overall budget is around $435. I mainly game, and while most games run decently on low to medium settings, I often experience significant frame drops to around 10-15 fps, making gameplay nearly impossible (I've checked, and the same happens even on a Full HD monitor).

If you need more info to help me out, just ask. Thanks a lot!

Honestly, for your setup, it might be better to save up for a whole new PC. Upgrading just the GPU might not give you the boost you need for the newer games. Your i7-6700k and other components are starting to show their age, and you could get more value from a full rebuild.

I hear you, but I'm trying to balance the budget and get the most out of my current system. Maybe I can find some budget-friendly options!

You might want to consider getting an RX 6600 instead of the RTX 5060. The 5060 could really bottleneck with your CPU, especially since it’s an older i7. The RX 6600 could give you better performance without the same risk of bottlenecking.

That's true, the RX 6600 is a solid option! Plus, it could be similar in performance to your current GTX 1070.
