Hey everyone, I need some help with my current gaming rig. Here's what I've got: an MSI X570-A PRO motherboard, an AMD Ryzen 5600X CPU, a powerful Nvidia 4080 Super GPU, 32GB DDR4 RAM running at 2133 MHz (though it shows 3200 MHz in the BIOS), and a 1TB Crucial NVMe SSD.
My main question is whether my CPU, RAM, and SSD are bottlenecking my GPU's performance. I primarily play MMOs like TnL and WoW at 4K with max settings. During gaming, my GPU usage often maxes out at over 95%, while my CPU sits around 80% but never hits 100%. I'm getting around 100-120 FPS in TnL with DLSS enabled.
I'm considering an upgrade to a 7800X3D or a 9800X3D along with some DDR5 6000MHz RAM and a new motherboard. In the UK, the 9800X3D costs about £400, DDR5 RAM around £170, and a decent motherboard is over £150. It feels like a hefty investment, but I'm curious if this would yield a significant performance boost in FPS?

Honestly, at 4K gaming, you're already hitting a GPU limitation, so it sounds like your current setup is pretty solid. Since your CPU is not maxing out, I doubt you'll see a noticeable improvement for the £400 you'd spend on an upgrade. Stick with what you have and enjoy your games!
If you're open to it, consider snagging a second-hand 5700X3D or 5800X3D. I've seen a noticeable difference in frame rates while sim racing at high resolutions with those chips. My 5600X sometimes drops to 60 FPS in heavy scenarios, while the 5800X3D stays steady around 90 FPS, which is a significant boost!
I looked into that, but they're still pretty pricey, between £250 to £350 used!
The bottleneck is determined by whichever component reaches 100% usage first. In your case, it seems your GPU is the main performer. Upgrading is an option, but be wary of over-investing without clear gains!

Yeah, that's what I'm thinking too. Since the CPU isn't hitting 100%, it feels fine for now, but I hear mixed opinions about the 5600X being 'bad.' Just not sure who's right!
