Is Upgrading My Gaming PC a Smart Move?

I'm looking to upgrade my current gaming setup, which consists of the following components: a Fractal Meshify C case, a Gigabyte B550 Aorus Elite AX V2 motherboard, 16GB of DDR4 3600MHz RAM, a Ryzen 7 3700x processor, an RTX 2060 6GB graphics card, a 750W EVGA SuperNova power supply, and a DarkRock Pro 4 CPU cooler.

I'm considering upgrading to a Ryzen 5800x3D (or possibly a cheaper alternative) and an RX 7900XTX, along with increasing my RAM to 32GB DDR4 3600MHz. Everything else would remain the same.

Do you think this is a sensible upgrade that will keep me going for another three years?

Absolutely, this upgrade is going to boost your performance, especially for gaming! The Ryzen 5800x3D provides fantastic improvements over the 3700x, especially in gaming. Just make sure your PSU can handle the extra load from that RX 7900XTX, as it’s a power-hungry beast.

If AMD re-launches the Ryzen 5800x3D at a solid price, like under $300, then that's a worthy upgrade. If not, I'd wait. Also, consider if your PSU can still handle that RX 7900XTX, as maintaining good power is crucial.

If you'll be using your PC for work and gaming, I'd suggest sticking with NVIDIA for the GPU due to better driver support and software compatibility. It might be a good idea to consider a high-end NVIDIA card instead of the RX 7900XTX.

You might want to look into upgrading your power supply too. AMD builds tend to push both the CPU and GPU at the same time, and a PSU of 850W or higher is recommended for stability.
