Is Upgrading to a 9060XT and Ryzen 5000 Series CPU Worth It for 1080p Gaming?

I'm looking to upgrade from my Ryzen 1600 and 1050 Ti to a 9060XT. I'm concerned about potential bottlenecks from my CPU since I want to keep my current setup without getting a whole new computer. I have a B450 motherboard and have read that the 5700X3D is a great choice, but I'm not sure if my 16GB of 3000 RAM will let me fully utilize it. Would opting for a Ryzen 5600 or 5700 for around $130 be a smart move with the 9060XT for 1080p gaming over the next several years? Also, I'm using a 500W bronze PSU, which might need an upgrade too.

I agree with going for the 5600. It's a reliable chip! My RTX 3060 became a bottleneck when I updated to a 9060XT, mainly in simulation-heavy games. Just keep your expectations in check—don’t expect to max everything at 1080p with that combo! I did benchmark Cyberpunk 2077 with ray tracing on and got around 100 FPS, which was a huge jump from how my 3060 struggled.

If you're sticking with AM4, the Ryzen 5600 is a good match for the 9060XT. You definitely should upgrade your PSU though. About aiming for 8 years of performance, that’s a stretch; you'll probably find yourself lowering settings on newer titles as the years roll on.

That would be a major upgrade for sure! Just bear in mind that what you plan to do in the future could affect how long the Ryzen 5600 or 5700 will serve you well. Also, pretty sure you’ll want a better power supply; something around 750W would be ideal without going overboard.

Upgrading to the 5700X3D and 9060XT is definitely a solid choice, but I wouldn’t bet on it lasting 8 years without issues. The combined TDP of those two is around 260W, so your 500W PSU should handle it, but I'd recommend considering a PSU upgrade for peace of mind.

I thought the same thing! I had a 1050 Ti last for 8 years, so I was hoping my 9060XT would too. Guess time will tell!
