Is Upgrading to a First Gen Ryzen Chip Worth It Compared to My i7 4790?

Hey everyone, I'm contemplating an upgrade from my i7 4790 as I'm playing a lot of modded Minecraft, particularly with shaders and the Distant Horizons mod, and I feel like my CPU is the bottleneck. I'm thinking about moving to a first generation Ryzen chip, like the R7 1700, since I've seen some affordable options for $30 to $50 on eBay. My total budget is $200, which I'm also planning to use for a motherboard and memory. Do you think a first gen Ryzen is a good choice, or should I look for something else that would improve performance more significantly?

With your budget of $200, I'd suggest looking at a used Ryzen 5 5600x, a B550 motherboard, and 2x16GB of RAM. The performance leap from the older Ryzen 1000 series to the 5000 series is substantial, so it's worth spending a bit more to get something that really delivers.

Good to know, I'll make sure to look into that.
