I'm considering an upgrade from my Ryzen 5600X to a Ryzen 5900X. I mainly use my PC for light gaming (like Battlefield 6, Baldur's Gate 3, and Helldivers), and I also host a Plex server along with running several virtual machines for my school work. I've got an RX6600 graphics card, so I'm wondering if the upgrade will make a noticeable difference. Besides updating the BIOS on my B450m a ii motherboard, is there anything else I need to keep in mind?

Upgrading to a 5900X seems like a smart move, especially if you can find one at a good price. Just keep in mind that moving to something even better will require a whole new setup with a new motherboard and DDR5 RAM, which can be pricey. So, consider if you’re ready for that investment later on.
What CPU are you currently using?
I have the 5600X, just updated my post.
Upgrading to the 5900X might not be necessary right now. If you have some extra funds, you might want to invest in peripherals like a better monitor, headphones, or keyboard. Those upgrades can provide a more tangible improvement in your experience. I upgraded from a 3900X to a 5950X, and honestly, I didn’t notice much of a difference in everyday tasks like web browsing or office work.
Only consider the upgrade if you’re experiencing any significant performance issues with your 5600X. If everything is running smoothly, like with Windows and casual applications, you might want to stick with what you have for now. After reading through all this, I'm thinking about just keeping the 5600X and maybe selling the 5900X instead.
The 5900X is great for multi-threaded tasks and virtual machines, so if you're planning on running multiple VMs, it could be beneficial. However, in gaming, you might find it on par with the 5800X. Just out of curiosity, what CPU have you been using?

Yeah, I have the 5600X, sorry for the confusion.
