Is Upgrading to a Ryzen 7 5700X3D Worth It with My Current Setup?

I've got a pretty old PC setup that I bought about 8 years ago for $500. Right now, I'm using an i5 6400 with a GTX 1050 Ti, an H110-M motherboard, and a 500W power supply. I mainly work on Linux Ubuntu but do some gaming on Windows, primarily playing Escape from Tarkov. I'm looking to optimize my budget by upgrading to a Ryzen 7 5700X3D along with a new cooler and motherboard, while keeping some of my existing parts like the GTX 1050 Ti and SSDs. I plan to sell off the leftover components after the upgrade. Is this a good move? I might upgrade my GPU down the line, but that's not in the cards for now.

The 5700X3D isn’t a bad choice for gaming, but it’s also designed for heavy workloads. If you’re doing programming alongside gaming, it should outperform your i5 6400. However, to really unlock its potential, you might want to think about upgrading your GPU in the future. Here's a link to a performance chart if you’re curious about comparisons!

As a manager and programmer, I feel like it would definitely be an upgrade over my old setup.

Before you make the switch, consider what type of games you’re playing. If you’re mostly playing on the 1050 Ti, you might not see huge gains with the 5700X3D since your GPU could hold back performance. Some folks have said Tarkov benefits from the X3D, but check if your gaming style would really tap into that CPU's strengths.

I’ve read that Tarkov does have some big FPS gains with the X3D, so I thought it might be worth it.
