Is Upgrading to a Ryzen 7 7800X3D Worth It with a GTX 1650?

Hey everyone! I'm currently running a Ryzen 5 3500X with a GTX 1650. I found an awesome deal on a Ryzen 7 7800X3D and I'm considering making the upgrade. My concern is whether I'll face significant bottlenecking since I'll still be using the GTX 1650 for a bit until I can upgrade to a 5060 Ti. My planned build after the upgrade is:

- Ryzen 7 7800X3D
- GTX 1650 (for now, until I swap for the 5060 Ti)
- B650 motherboard
- 32 GB of 6400 DDR5 RAM
- 850W PSU

Just to give you context, I mostly play FiveM at 1280x1024 with all settings on low. Do you think this setup will experience major bottlenecking?

Don't sweat the bottleneck talk too much! Every setup has a 'weakest link'. In your case, it's likely the GPU. Just remember that for each game, the bottleneck can change based on how demanding it is. With that said, upgrading your CPU now makes sense since you plan on getting a better GPU soon.

I really don’t want to buy too much power for nothing! Just trying to make sure my performance is decent in FiveM.

Bottlenecks can be tricky to quantify! Instead of stressing over calculators and numbers, use your setup until you can afford a better GPU. People often use lower-tier GPUs with high-end CPUs without issues, so you should be okay for gaming unless you're aiming for higher resolutions and refresh rates.

Good call! I’ll just play around with it until I upgrade the GPU. Thanks!

Honestly, if you can snag that 7800X3D at a good price, I say go for it! Yes, the 1650 might limit your performance, but having a powerful CPU will help when you upgrade to a better GPU later on. You should still be fine for your current gaming needs with the 1650; it’s not like you’re going to be using the CPU’s full power yet, anyway.

So you think I can play without worrying too much about the bottleneck, right? Just until I can get the 5060 Ti?

If you're still planning to get the 5060 Ti, it might be worth skipping the CPU upgrade for now and just getting the new GPU instead. Your current CPU won’t reduce performance drastically for gaming, and you’ll see a way better performance jump with the new GPU than with the CPU. The 7800X3D will shine with a much better graphics card.

But I’m worried about games that are CPU-heavy. Should I not be concerned about that?
