Is Upgrading to the Ryzen 7 5700X3D a Smart Choice for Gaming?

Hey all! I'm currently running a Ryzen 5 3600 with an RTX 3070, and I know there's some bottlenecking happening. I'm considering upgrading my CPU, but I'm hesitant to switch to AM5 unless it's a significant upgrade. I'm particularly interested in the Ryzen 7 5700X3D – is that a solid option? I primarily game on my PC, with Escape From Tarkov being my most demanding title. Right now, I'm using a Gigabyte B550M DS3H motherboard.

Definitely consider a 5000X3D if you can locate one; they’re just a bit rare and pricey now. If you're looking at a Vermeer 5000 series CPU, it would be a bit of a minor upgrade. But moving to AM5 could be a game changer! I upgraded from a 5600X to a 9800X3D, and it made a huge difference for me.

Maybe I should hold off and save for both the motherboard and CPU instead?

If the 5700X3D is available, it's definitely a good buy, or you could also look into the 5800X3D for top-tier performance. Otherwise, the Ryzen 5 5600 is still a solid choice if you're not set on the higher-end options.

Got it, thanks for the input!

If you can snag the 5700X3D at a decent price, it's one of the best gaming CPUs available on the AM4 platform. Just keep in mind that they can be tricky to find, so looking for a used 5600X, 5700X, or 5800X might be a more budget-friendly alternative.

I saw one on eBay for around $460 CAD, not a bad deal!
