Is Upgrading to the Ryzen 7 5700X3D Worth It for My Setup?

I'm currently using an AM4 setup with a Ryzen 5 5600X, and I've recently gotten a new GPU, the 9060 XT. I've been saving up and now have the opportunity to upgrade to a Ryzen 7 5700X3D, which costs around $400 here. My main concern is whether that price is justified and how long this upgrade would keep me gaming smoothly at 1440p. I don't really care about ray tracing or ultra settings; I just want a good performance at high settings. Can this combo last me until 2030 without needing another upgrade?

$400 seems expensive for that CPU. If it were me, I’d look for a 5800X, which you can find for around $200 on Amazon. It’s a much better deal!

Just so you know, the price for the 5700X3D has been ridiculous lately. It used to sit around $200 not long ago. Also, there's no true 'future-proofing'—every few years, tech evolves and games will always demand more. Instead, think about saving for a bigger upgrade in a few years when new GPUs and CPUs are out.

I upgraded from a 3700X to the 5700X3D, and while I noticed some improvements, I wouldn't say it was a $400 worth of difference. If you're doing well with your current setup, consider waiting or scouting for a second-hand deal.

Honestly, $400 feels like too much for the 5700X3D. If you already have a 5600X, that’s a solid setup for 1440p gaming. Unless you're experiencing issues, I wouldn't rush to upgrade right now.

Yep, I'm holding onto my 5600X too, seems to work just fine!

It would help to know your current CPU, but honestly, any Ryzen 5000 series CPU should pair well with your 9060 XT at 1440p. I have a 5700X, and it works flawlessly with my 4070 Super at those settings. If you find a 5700X or 5800X for under $250, I’d go for that instead of the 5700X3D at $400.

That's great to hear! I think I'll stick with my 5600X then.
