As a junior system administrator, I'm curious about the real deal on upgrading from Windows 10, 7, or 8.1 to Windows 11. I've heard mixed opinions at my job about whether this upgrade is actually free for companies, despite having the proper licenses. What's the truth?

A Windows 10 license will indeed activate Windows 11. Just keep in mind, if you upgraded from Windows 7, that free upgrade offer is long gone. Also, make sure you're doing this on supported hardware; otherwise, you're on your own.
If you're running Windows Pro and have a Microsoft 365 Windows Business license, upgrading to Windows 11 should work for you. Just make sure that your system supports the new OS.
It’s all about your existing licenses. If your PC had a valid Windows 7 or later license embedded in the BIOS, you should be able to upgrade for free. Just check your setup before proceeding.
If you're using Microsoft’s Volume Licensing Service Center (VLSC), remember you pay monthly for usage, so make sure to factor that in your budget.
The upgrade isn't free unless you have supported hardware. If you're on Windows 10, you can upgrade to 11, but that only applies if your current setup meets Microsoft’s requirements. Otherwise, you'll need to have the proper licensing for a successful upgrade.
