Hey everyone! I installed a new access point (AP) at our secondary site last week, and since then, two laptops have been struggling with internet performance. I thought it might be interference from the old AP, which I reset and then removed, but the problems persist. When one specific SSID is used, the ping spikes over 1000ms as soon as I open Edge, making it impossible to launch applications that rely on our main site. I connected the laptop to my hotspot without any issues. I've tried several fixes like reinstalling drivers, resetting the network settings, disabling IPv6, and even clearing out Edge, but nothing seems to work. I'm puzzled because my newer laptop works fine on different SSIDs without any delay. I've reached out to the vendor to see if there's an issue with the controller, but I'm not sure if it's a network stack problem or something else entirely. Anyone encountered similar issues?

Definitely dive into monitoring the network with Wireshark while you connect to the AP. It can help you pinpoint where the issue lies, especially since you notice problems as soon as Edge opens. Tracking the network conversations might reveal something worrying!
Absolutely! Understanding what's happening in the background can give you insights into why your connection drops. It seems intimidating at first, but once you get the hang of Wireshark, it can be really enlightening!
It seems like the managed network could be causing issues with how certain devices connect to the AP or priorities on the bandwidth. Since your laptop works fine on other SSIDs, I'd recommend contacting the network admin to clear that up. Let them know the history, and hopefully, they can adjust the settings.
That makes sense! If the laptop has been stable for years, something must have changed with the network configuration alongside the new AP installation.
It's odd that this only started happening recently. Make sure to keep them posted on how long you've had that laptop on the network with no issues prior to this AP change.
When you mentioned Edge, are you sure there's no secure DNS feature enabled that might be affecting your connection? Also, try creating a new user profile on the laptop to see if the issue persists. That could help rule out profile-specific problems.
If the issue continues across profiles, it’s less likely to be something local to just that one profile, which is progress in troubleshooting!
Good thinking! It could help to know if the problem is tied to the user profile or the system as a whole.
Have you checked the VLAN assignment? Ensuring you're getting the correct IP could be key. Sometimes, configuration issues like these can cause connectivity problems, especially after new hardware is installed.
It sounds like there might be some settings on the AP controller causing this issue. Check if there’s any guest mode or traffic shaping enabled for that SSID that might be limiting bandwidth or affecting performance. That could easily spike your pings when using the browser!
Yeah, knowing exactly what's going on at the moment the problem occurs will help you troubleshoot effectively. It's a super useful tool!
