Hey everyone! I'm running into some serious issues with Windows indexing on my Windows Server 2025 after the KB5068861 patch. The client searches on a mapped network drive have been incredibly slow and the results are inconsistent. I haven't found much info, just that a future patch in December or January might fix this.
Here's what I've tried so far:
- I've installed all the latest updates, hoping something would help (fixed a few Explorer issues, but not mine).
- I've rebuilt the indexes multiple times on both the client and server.
- I toggled the Windows search feature on and off.
- Ran SFC and DISM to fix any OS issues.
- Did a reset and reinstall of Windows on the client side.
- The troubleshooter pointed out a permission error on the index file location, but I've taken ownership and granted full control to everyone.
Local searches on the server are super quick, but client-side searches on the shared drive take about 5-10 minutes, and the results don't match what the server finds. Anyone have any advice on what I might be missing?

Sounds more like a bug on the client side to me. You might want to either wait for the next patch or stick to searching directly on the server for now.
Not exactly the answer you want, but I've had a lot of success using third-party software like FileLocator Pro. It really speeds up the searching process!
Honestly, searching on network drives has always been a bit hit or miss. If you really depend on search for those drives, I'd suggest looking into PowerShell or giving 'Everything' a try. It's a solid alternative for quick searches.
