Why does my internet keep freezing despite good speeds?

I'm experiencing a frustrating issue where my internet connection keeps freezing every few minutes, even though my download speed is the advertised 1 Gbps and my ping is around 20 ms. This problem affects all my devices, including my PC, which is connected via Ethernet to my modem. The internet essentially drops for a couple of minutes every 2 to 5 minutes, making gaming and streaming really annoying. I've had my internet service provider come out to troubleshoot, but they couldn't find the problem. Interestingly, my grandparents next door have the same ISP with a slower speed, and their setup has been working perfectly fine. I'm looking for any solutions or troubleshooting tips. Thanks!

I have to say, it sounds like your router might be failing. If trying different channels or bands doesn't help, you might be looking at needing a new router. Have you noticed any other performance issues during heavy usage?

It sounds like you might be dealing with a faulty combo modem-router unit. Have you made sure to restart it? Sometimes those cheaper models can wear out over time and lose their ability to maintain a steady connection. Check the lights on the device to see if any are flashing when the connection drops. If the modem seems to be losing WAN connection, that could be a clue too.

If you're having issues even with a direct Ethernet connection to the modem, you might want to explore the modem settings. It’s worth checking what channel it's set to. You might want to try different channels, or see if it’s on 2.4 GHz or 5 GHz band. You could also forget any networks listed in the settings. Sometimes just tweaking those can resolve connectivity problems.
